Faxing using Windows Applications/Tools

How to send faxes via dedicated Windows applications and tools that are available for download.

Note: This topic is specifically intended for end-users. If you are an administrator, see Fax Integration with Windows Clients instead.

Several Windows client applications and tools can be downloaded and installed on a user workstation. This section quickly describes the ones and explains how to install and use them.

All these client applications and tools (and their documentation) are available in: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese.

Downloading/Installing the Client Applications

The Client Installer can be downloaded from the XMedius Cloud Help Center, section Technical Support > Software and Tools.

Using the Client Applications

SendFAX

SendFAX is a Windows application used to compose and send faxes. it also provides a means of viewing, annotating and reordering the pages of the documents to be faxed. A local phone book for SendFAX is available in option.
  • SendFAX (and its local phone book) can be installed by selection through the downloadable client installer.
  • To use SendFAX, launch Start > All Programs > XMediusFAX > SendFAX, compose your fax and send it.

XMediusFAX Printer

Using that printer from a desktop application locally converts the current document into a TIFF file in order to open it in SendFAX and fax it. Accessed this way, SendFAX may either be displayed with its full interface or with a minimal interface for quick faxing.
  • The XMediusFAX printer is automatically installed along with SendFAX.
  • To use the XMediusFAX printer, open the document to fax in its native application and print it (to SendFAX) by selecting XMediusFAX via the application's printing options.

Web Fax Composer Printer

Using that printer from a desktop application locally converts the current document into a TIFF file in order to fax it via the Web Client. The Web Client Compose feature is then launched with the TIFF file included (uploaded) as an attachment.
  • The Web Fax Composer printer can be installed by selection through the downloadable client installer.
  • To use the Web Fax Composer printer, open the document to fax in its native application and print it by selecting Web Fax Composer via the application's printing options.

Print To Mail

Using that printer from a desktop application locally converts the current document into a TIFF file in order to fax it via email. Thus, an email creation window opens with the TIFF file included as an attachment.
  • The Print To Mail printer can be installed by selection through the downloadable client installer.
  • To use the Print To Mail printer, open the document to fax in its native application and print it by selecting Print To Mail via the application's printing options, then follow your usual way to address the email to a fax number.

Fax Merge Functionalities

Fax merge features can be made available in Microsoft Word and OpenOffice.org Writer applications, to allow you broadcasting faxes using a fax recipient database.
  • All elements allowing the integration of the fax merge functionalities are automatically installed through the downloadable client installer. It requires however some configuration to be performed afterwards by the administrator (see Installing the Fax Merge Macros (MS Word and OpenOffice.org)).
  • To use these functionalities, please refer to the User Guide (available with the installed applications).
