Description

SendSecure for Outlook allows users to securely send documents & messages directly from Outlook through the SendSecure cloud service.

Among other functionalities, it integrates seamlessly with the Outlook interface (including its address book) and enables the conversion of a regular email (being written) into a SendSecure message.
Note: SendSecure for Outlook is available in English, French and German.

Requirements

SendSecure for Outlook is compatible with Outlook 2010 and higher versions, 32-bit/64-bit.

Before installing SendSecure for Outlook on any computer, you must ensure that the following required items are already installed (otherwise the installation will abort):
  • .NET version 4.6.1 (minimum), and
  • VSTO Runtime (Visual Studio Tools for Office) version 10.0.31130 (minimum).

Installation

Depending on your enterprise context, you might want to install SendSecure for Outlook:
Important: In both cases, you must ensure to configure Outlook to always enable the "SendSecure for Outlook" add-in at startup (instructions provided below).

Manual Installation

  1. Download the installer through the link provided in this article – see Download.
  2. Launch the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
    Note: It is recommended to run the installer as administrator (if you have the proper permissions) and perform the installation for all users of the computer.
  3. Select the Service Type according to your current SendSecure deployment: Cloud Service or On-Premises Server (ask your administrator if you are not sure).
  4. Configure the service access point:
    1. Depending on your service type:
      • Enterprise Short Name (Cloud Service): enter your cloud enterprise account unique identifier.
      • SendSecure URL (On-Premises Server): enter the URL of your SendSecure On-Premises server portal (for example: https://portal.your-domain.com/your-enterprise).
    2. Test the entered parameter to ensure its validity before starting the installation.
  5. Once the installation is complete, start (or restart) your Outlook.
  6. Configure Outlook to always enable the "SendSecure for Outlook" add-in at startup.

    To achieve this, go to File > Info > Manage COM Add-Ins.

You can now start to securely send documents & messages through SendSecure.

Installation by Group Policy

  1. Download the installer (msi) through the link provided in this article – see Download.
  2. Create a Group Policy Object (GPO).
  3. Under Computer Configuration, add a Startup script pointing to a batch file; in the folder of the startup script, you should have:
    1. The downloaded installer file:

      SendSecure-Outlook_{version}.msi

    2. The batch file with the following content – depending on your service type:
      • Cloud Service:
        @echo off
        pushd {network_path}\Policies\{GUID}\Machine\Scripts\Startup
        msiexec /i "SendSecure-Outlook_{version}.msi" ALLUSERS=1 ENTERPRISE_ACCOUNT={account} /qn
        popd
        Replace the placeholders with proper values:
        • the {network_path} of your GPO policies,
        • the {GUID} of the current GPO,
        • the {version} of the downloaded msi file, and
        • your SendSecure enterprise {account} (unique identifier).
      • On-Premises Server:
        @echo off
        pushd {network_path}\Policies\{GUID}\Machine\Scripts\Startup

        Replace the placeholders with proper values:
        • the {network_path} of your GPO policies,
        • the {GUID} of the current GPO,
        • the {version} of the downloaded msi file,
        • your SendSecure {server_domain} (for example: portal.your-domain.com,
        • the {enterprise} (unique identifier) to which the users belong within your SendSecure Application (for example: your-enterprise), and
        • your SendSecure {server_url} (for example: https://portal.your-domain.com/your-enterprise).
  4. Under User Configuration, add Registry keys to be created/updated by the GPO – one per Outlook version supported by SendSecure for Outlook and currently used by your users:

Update

Manual Update

  1. Download the new installer through the link provided in this article – see Download.
  2. Launch the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
    Note: It is recommended to run the installer as administrator (if you have the proper permissions).
  3. Once the update is complete, start (or restart) your Outlook.

Update by Group Policy

  1. Download the new installer (msi) through the link provided in this article – see Download.
  2. In the folder of the GPO startup script initially created for first installation:
    • Paste the new downloaded file (SendSecure-Outlook_{version}.msi).
      Important: Keep a copy of the previous msi in case you would need to roll back the update.
    • Update the batch file's msiexec command with the name (version) of the new msi.
