XM Fax Integration with Email Infrastructures

Administrator -

Integration to send faxes by email with the XM Fax Service.

Allowing Users to Basically Send Faxes through Email

Two types of users can benefit from the email-to-fax functionality, depending on your corporate environment and account configuration: registered users (which have a user account within your enterprise account) and unlisted users (which are not registered, but whose email domain is trusted).

Registered users

To provide a basic fax service via email-to-fax to your registered users, no configuration is required on your server, nor on the workstations. As long as users can send an email over the internet (e.g. with MS Outlook, Gmail, Office 365...), they will be able to fax via the XM Fax Service.

To be able to use the email-to-fax functionality, a registered user must have the XM Fax Service enabled and send the faxes from the email address that is configured in this user account.

Unlisted users

Your account can be configured to enable the email-to-fax functionality for unlisted users (i.e. fax senders that are not registered in your enterprise account), based on a list of trusted email domains (see Allowing Unlisted Users to Send Faxes by Email).

To be able to use the email-to-fax functionality, an unlisted user must send the faxes from an email address that belong to a trusted email domain specified among the enterprise account settings.

Using the mail-to-fax functionality

To send a fax (using any email client), the user only needs to send an email to fax_number@domain.
Note: In the "To" field:
  • The fax_number should be formatted according to the international format (E.164);
  • The domain depends on the region of your enterprise account : xmedius.com for USA, xmedius.ca for Canada, xmedius.eu for Europe.
Some examples of fax addressing:
  • +15551234567@xmedius.com (from US enterprise account to NA destination)
  • +33141234567@xmedius.ca (from Canada enterprise account to Europe destination)
  • +33141234567@xmedius.eu (from Europe enterprise account to Europe destination)
  • +15551234567@xmedius.eu (from Europe enterprise account to NA destination)
